OEHeats supports the WMOC Long final

OEHeats had been already used successfully together with OE12/OE2010 at a number of WMOCs in the past years. One of my personal highlights was the WMOC 2014 in Brazil, where I could support the local organisers with my IT service. Some years ago, the IOF has changed the competition schedule of WMOC and added the Middle distance final. Together with that, the IOF has defined specific rules for the composition of the Long distance final. They include promotions and relegations between the final levels which are based on the Middle final results and for exceptional cases also on the Forest qualification results.
The Forest qualification and the Middle final can be executed using the basic functions of OEHeats.
To support the WMOC Long final, I have added a new event type WMOC Long in OEHeats. This adds the WMOC Long final as the fourth competition to the three existing events for Entries, (Forest) Qualification and (Middle) Final. Creating the start list for the WMOC Long final can be done with a single mouseclick. Since the IOF most likely changes the rules for that from time to time, you can select the year of the rule as the basis for the correct computation, beginning with 2024.
I could test this new function and validate its correct working with the data of the past WMOCs and especially with the WMOC 2024 in Turku, Finland.
For the creation of the “normal” final (which is the WMOC Middle final also), I have added the new option Fill up higher heats which is the IOF rule for the Sprint and Middle finals. If there are many competitors without a valid result in one quali heat, then it may happen that a final (normally the last but one) does not reach the full planned size, based on the quali places which would be necessary to qualify. The IOF rule says that in this case those finals must be filled up by the next placed finishers who would be in the next lower final otherwise.
I have also added some information of how every competitor came into the right final and start position. This can be displayed with the start list in OE12 as a help for the organiser and the (IOF) controller.

Updates of OE12, OS12, OEScore and OEHeats

This time many small but important functional user wishes for OE12 have been implemented. Many of them are basic features which are valid for all main applications.
Among others, there are improvements in working with Voided legs, the XML exports of teams, an extended space for the comment fields in Chip evaluation, new user definable competitor classifiers, a maximum time, start list draw and the automatic uploads to web services.
As usual, a number of small bugs have been fixed also.
This is a short summary of a long list which you can read in the release notes after you installed the update.

OS12, OEScore V.12.1 and OEHeats V.12.1 have been updated accordingly.

OE12, OS12, OEScore and OEHeats will detect this update automatically. You can also use the Check for updates function in all applications to download the new setup. Of course you could also click on the Downloads button to get it.
As usual, the download works as trial version as long as you don’t have a valid V12 license. Updates or new licenses can be ordered through the Online shop or from the author directly.

Knockout Sprint using OEHeats

Using OEHeats V.12.1 you can organise Knockout Sprints now.
Knockout Sprint is an official IOF discipline now and part of the Sprint WOC. More and more countries introduce this format as a race of their national championships. Also other Knockout Sprint competitions are held to prepare the athletes for the WOC.
This year I was in contact with some organisers of KO sprints about how to do it best in OE12, with or without the help of OEHeats. Finally this was the motivation for me to implement this into OEHeats.
With OEHeats it is possible to combine both the “normal” Qualification/Final event type and the KO sprint. In some countries this is handled as following. The Elite classes (maybe not only W/M 21 but also 16, 18 and/or 20) have a qualification race and then the KO sprint. All other classes have the normal Qualification/Final mode with several final heats. OEHeats fulfils the standard KO format defined by the IOF, which means 36 competitors qualifiy for the KO quarter final. Then you have 6 heats in the quarter final, 3 heats in the semi final and a final race with the best 6 competitors. In addition to that, OEHeats offers more flexibility. This means that you can define for every class individually where the KO race should start. If there are less than 36 finishers in the qualification, a class can also start directly with the semi finals or even with the final, with any number of competitors.
OEHeats offers an easy-to-use management of the start times of the KO heats. It happens very often that the previously planned time table does not fit to the reality. In OEHeats you can change every heat start time with a single mouse click. The IOF has defined a special overall result format for KO sprints. This is implemented in OEHeats.
